Regular Guy EAT'N FOOD: Episode 7 - Bendy's Cookies & Cream

Get ready for a sweet tooth overload! Bendy's has got some amazing homemade treats you can buy out of their food truck. As a matter of fact, their snickerdoodle cookie is the best my wife and I have ever had!

Owners Ben and Wendy Treadwell have ingredients in their food that bring you back to your childhood just by taking a bite! When I was trying their stuff, I kept giggling on the inside and on the out! And I got to try quite a few of their assortment of scratch-made cookies and ice cream...All in moderation of course! ;)

They currently operate around the Birmingham area and post where they'll be each week on their various social media sites. I know that it's starting to get colder outside, but what they're serving up will warm you up with its goodness!

Check them out!

"Regular Guy" On Absolutely Alabama with Fred Hunter!

This "Regular Guy" got his own segment on Absolutely Alabama with Fred Hunter! Yay! It was a lot of fun shooting and I'm so thankful for the opportunity! Fred & Mike were super nice and easy to get along with.

I recently wrapped filming episode 7 of my show which is with Bendy's Cookies & Cream. Ben & Wendy, or "Bendy" have some amazing homemade cookies & ice cream! I really enjoyed getting to work with them as well. Can't wait for ya'll to see the episode when I post it soon. It's chock full of Cookie Monster impressions! Ha!

Anyhooz, enough chatter, here's the link to the Absolutely Alabama vid:

*For some reason if you try to load it on a phone it won't work? At least that's the experience  I had and a few other folks I've heard from about it.

Regular Guy EAT'N FOOD: Episode 6 - Swoul Food

Happy "Day After" Halloween everybody! Hopefully you didn't eat too much candy last night and find it hard to bear checking out my latest "treat" of an episode...

You rarely find fresh and healthy pre-cooked food that you can take home with you these days...With the abundance of fast food joints out there, it's definitely refreshing to find a place like Swoul Food that will provide you that healthier alternative...

Owner Isaac Robinson has been rolling out these types of dishes since 2014, and man are they delish! One of my favorite's was actual the sausage, egg, and cheese "Que-Swoul-Dilla" which only makes a brief appearance in my vid below. Everything I ate there was super fresh and they had  some awesome flavor combos. And let me tell you, their Swoul Sauce will jazz up just about anything you put it on! Check them out, it's worth it! And like their slogan says, "Your hunger is worthy..."

Regular Guy EAT'N FOOD: Episode 5 - Old Town Pizza

The time has finally arrived to unveil episode 5! It's PIZZA TIME!

I LOVE pizza! It's one of my favorite foods to eat. One main reason being that it's a blank crusty canvas you can paint with endless toppings...Delicious, tempting toppings! And there is no doubt that's what Old Town Pizza truck is bringing to the table with the tasty ingredients they use!

Practically everything they used is locally sourced, and you can definitely tell a difference. From the "Whole Hog" to the "Big Buff" they're serving up a unique pizza experience! All of which was inspired by the owner T.J. Hagan's trip to Italy where he learned some traditional techniques.

The wood fired brick oven delivers a much more rustic flavor than what you'd normally get at a pizza joint. I personally enjoyed every pizza I tried, and they all warmed up well as leftovers. You should definitely find them on social media and see where they'll be. Glad that their executive chef Pelham reached out to me about them, and look forward to getting some 'zza from them again in the future!

Regular Guy EAT'N FOOD: Episode 4 - Off The Rip

Chicken and waffles...

It's a combo that some people scoff at and I don't know why? You like chicken, and you most likely are a fan of "The Waffle." So why not throw them on the same plate and enjoy?
That's what I did for my latest episode by checking out what "Off The Rip" has to offer.

Owned by Richard Walker, it's the fairly "new kid on the block" when it comes to food trucks around my neck of the woods. But it did make an impression on me and has garnered a bit of buzz from others. And they aren't just about their staple dish chicken and waffles either. You have a few other options that are quite tasty and some very "breakfasty" ones I might add...A standout in particular though was their loaded sausage sandwich which has "turkey on turkey" as Richard stated in the vid. Really flavorful sangwich for sure! Plus, if you're not a beef or pork person, it's a great alternative. (Granted, I'd probably put all three together on a sandwich!) Well anyhooz, I feel like you're probably tired of reading about the food, so I'll keep this short and post some video linkage for ya! Hope it makes ya hungry!

Regular Guy EAT'N FOOD: Episode 3 - The Heavenly Donut Co.

Wow! It's been WAY too long since I put up a new post, but episode 3 is finally here ladies and germs! I went to The Heavenly Donut Co. in this one, and boy do they have some amazing sweet treats! I would say with confidence that they are the best donuts I've ever had...You'll just have to go get some and judge for yourself now won't you! :)

Photo courtesy of photographer Beau Gustafson.

They carry your best selling "usual suspects" like the glazed and chocolate glazed, but there were some non-traditional ones that really stood out to me. Like the fantabulously lovely maple bacon donut. I mean come on, there's BACON, mapley delicious icing, and BACON! Did I mention that there's bacon? ;) Everything I ate there was absolutely "heavenly" to take the easy way out in describing it. I mean, they don't call themselves The Heavenly Donut Co. for nothin'! Even the great Alton Brown has stated that their donuts were "Out of this world." when he visited the 'Ham for a tour.

I'd say though that overall, their apple fritter has since became one of my new favorite desserts and it's ginormous! It’s a big ol’ gooey, apply, pastry of deliciousness! But anyhooz, enough talk, you want to see what this place is all about! Enjoy my latest tasty entry of the show. And also check out my article for B-Metro, which will be posted each month along with the print magazine...

Regular Guy EAT'N FOOD: Episode 2 - Eugene's Hot Chicken

It's been a little over a month since my last post, but I've got some great news!

Episode 2 is here! :) Woo hoo!

For this episode of Regular Guy, I got me some Eugene's Hot Chicken and it sure didn't disappoint! Zebbie Carney is the chef/owner of this food truck and he definitely brings his Nashville roots and his passion for food into each dish on the menu. There are three different heat levels for this authentic hot chicken, so even a "heat novice" can give it a try. But if you want to completely take the "H-O-T" out of "hot chicken" they also offer a "Southern" version that is just fried chicken goodness!

Everything they make is made fresh daily, and they use nothing but the best ingredients. Their batter makes that chicken so crunchy and delicious! Every crispy bite just brings tears of joy to your eyes! :*) Then you've got the chicken on the inside that is some of the moistest you'll ever sink your teeth into! The amount of food you get for the price is unlike most places you'd go...

They don't skimp on dessert either. That banana pudding definitely gave my Nanny's version some competition! Ha! And that's a tough thing to do...They don't have a set location though, but if you follow them on social media you can see their schedule each week. You should definitely check them out! Hope you enjoy the episode and let me know what you think...

Regular Guy EAT'N FOOD on TV!

Hello everyone out in Blogville, U.S.A., hope all is well! I'll keep this little post short and sweet...

It's actually been almost a week now, but I got to appear on a great local talk show we have out here called "Talk of Alabama" on ABC 33/40! It was a lot of fun and Ebony Hall did an awesome job with the interview! Everyone there was super nice and extremely professional, and I couldn't have asked for a better experience.

Definitely wish I could have gotten some more "behinds the scenes" footage for you though. I was able to take these silly pictures outside in the lobby area which was fun. They had a lot of Emmy's! :) Couldn't do any others later because my cell phone had to be turned off before entering the set (which is totally understandable). Check out this pics cluster and let me know what you think about the vid of the broadcast in the link below? Peace!

Regular Guy EAT'N FOOD To-Go: Knoxville, TN

My wife and I took a mini vacay to Knoxville, TN two weekends ago and it was such a great little trip! We were going to see a band we like, Dawes, perform at the Bijou Theatre. I of course took this not only as a chance to see some great music, but to try some great local cuisine! After all, I do love to eat!

One of the first food stops on our trip was Tupelo Honey Cafe in Market Square. A great mix of Southern favorites that will wrap you in a snugly blanket of happy soul goodyness! :) For an appetizer we had their Pimento Cheese Dip and it was delish! I've always been a pimento cheese fan, but never had it served hot. Who would have thunk it! Tasty!

For my main event though I went with their Mountain Pulled Pork sandwich with a side of Brussels slaw. They put tobacco onions on it (I know right?), house-made pickles, and the "piece de resistance" smoked jalapeno BBQ sauce pulled pork. Umm, yes please! If that doesn't make your mouth water...

Candice had the fried chicken plate which was equally as tasty. I know, because I got to try a little bit too! Perks of being married! Ha! That mac & cheese was the bomb diggity!

For lunch the next day we went to the French Market Creperie on S. Gay Street. If you want some awesome authentic French style food, you should definitely check them out! I had their seasonal crepe made for the Rossini Festival which happened to be that weekend too. It was of the pepperoni pizza variety and was full of cheesy goodness! Can't go wrong with anything with a little pizza flare!

All in all, the trip was great! Knoxville has so much to offer that we didn't get to see because as I said, this was a shorty trip. We'll definitely go back in the future though. And I'm sure I'll eat some more!

Episode 1: Little Bit of R & R BBQ

I've been slacking I know, but blogging is something fairly new to me...That being said, I'll just dive right in!

It's actually been almost a month now since I debuted the very first episode of my new show (which I will attach in this post). My first stop took me about 10 minutes from my house to a food truck in Leeds, AL owned/operated by Colt Reese, known as Little Bit of R&R BBQ. The name speaks for itself. Because once you've eaten it, you'll want to kick up your feet and dream of the next time you'll taste it's barbequey goodness. It's that delish!

While there, I sampled a good bit of what they have on the menu, as well as some items that are either specialties, or are no longer available, #Sadface. The "pig candy" was a nice surprise, because you can never go wrong with anything bacon! My fave though is probably their pulled pork because it's so tender and juicy. Umm! Makes me smile just typing about it! :) Their super secret sauce, which took two years to come up with, complements everything it touches extremely well. It's that right balance of being just a tad sweet, but also having enough of a tang to make even John Glenn happy!

Not only will you get some of the best BBQ you've ever put in your mouth, you'll get some comparable sides. The baked beans have a nice little addition the makes them stand out from any I've had before. And that mac & cheese, oh man the mac & cheese! You'll just have to drive out the Leeds or to their 280 location and see what I mean. And desserts, oh my goodness...Bread pudding is something to right home to Mom about!

Well now that I've spilled the "beans" in my first blog post, I'm going to "wrap" this up! Food puns intended.

Side Note: This first episode was actually filmed back in August of last year, and they have since taken the Dino Rib off the menu. :*( One side addition though is that they are serving cornbread with their plates now. I heard it through the grapevine that it's supposed to be quite tasty! Also, you can visit them at their other location off of 280 near the Walmart, plus there's an actual restaurant on the horizon in the near future for Odenville, AL...

Without much further ado, enjoy and let me know what you think! Like, subscribe, follow, etc. etc.
